Here is a cartoon for this weekend in the Hamilton Spectator of the Mayoral race in Toronto. Smitherman coming on strong after everyone and their brother seemed to want to hand the race over to big bad Rob Ford.
I finally made it out to a convention for the editorial cartoonists of Canada and boy was it worth it! Great to see many friends and meet new ones, all fun and talented. A grand time.
Here is a picture of Jack White that I did last year but considered a bit iffy. I like some of it but perhaps it looked a bit MJ-ish in the likeness department. Not sure, any comments?
A cartoon from the G20 silliness the other week that ran in the Hamilton Spectator. Graeme MacKay is the very funny cartoonist from The Spectator and he was kind enough to get me on board for some contributing there.
Some more quick pieces here including a Mulroney/Schreiber piece, one on civic art installations in Canada with the Maman staue in Ottawa and the cover which is the Canadian author cross country tour, inclusing Linden MacIntyre, Saul etc.
This is a cartoon from last year of Harper when he did his live Beatles performing with YoYo Ma. The gist is how the PM has essentially skated through his term because there has been little impressive leadership from the opposition.
I had to draw some chaps for an engineering firm promotion announcement. This is one of the fellows.

The secret farmers midnight dance is the title of the children's book I've illustrated for the great Neil Crone. I'll post the mock ups of the artwork here prior to final changes and printing. A very nice story about farm animals and our relationship with them.
Gilles Duceppe made some vintage comments on the weekend equating the Quebec struggle to that of the "Resistance". He claims it was not intended to compare their struggle with that of the Nazi fighters, but oh well, too late.
What a fine Olympics we all just enjoyed, we may never have one like it in our lifetime. Lamont the French torpedo agrees.....he was super speedy throughout the event!
We just returned from a lovley new year's eve vacation at Val Saint Come Quebec. Lots of skiing and sitting about the chalet. Here are a few doodles from my fireside bake outs.
Hello friends and welcome to the Wes Tyrell sketchbook, the ongoing way to share my latest artwork and foolishness with you. I work for magazines with a few different techniques specializing in my own brand of caricatures, political cartoons and simple line cartoons.
I'll be adding updates of my sketches and published pieces to work in tandem with my website. I hope there is something here to tickle your fancy.
Hoping to always get better, your comments are welcome.
I am a Toronto illustrator /cartoonist. This is my first graphic novel and I hope it will entertain and enlighten those who are interested in the fascinating country of Cuba.
