Shakespeare flyer

I was asked to make a mini poster/flyer for a class teaching youngsters to read Shakespeare aloud, in this case "The comedy of errors". Noting that scholars claim all portraits of the man were done after his death I decided to not look at anything and just try and make a guy that looks Shakespeare-esque.

Crabtree Photography

For those that have not seen it, here is a business card I made for the great Marc Crabtree.
I felt showing the subjects ( in this case some classic eastern Euro wedding guests) was more sensible than showing the photographer himself.

NEW DOG ART

Here is a couple of recent one for Dogs in Canada about dog handlers in the ring that are a bit too absorbed about themselves while doggy is slacking off/acting the fool.

of integrating your dog in the work environment.

Bad dreams for McCain

Made up a cartoon before the US election was decided and for some crazy reason thought "I'll paint it!" instead of inking it.
So here is a bit of a poor photo, as it is too large to scan, of a McCain nightmare....back in a south sea sailor's booze can with all the dregs of humanity and his partner/Siren/mermaid/harpie.

December dog illustrations

Here are a couple for the magazine including a quasi-realistic 50's style drawing of a family on Christmas day. An interesting exercise for me to try and draw folks without exaggerating them.

Surfing Life Magazine

Here is an illo on Steph Gilmour, Australian surf queen and huge inspiration for all the girls out there to kick some butt on the waves.

WOOF

Some recent doggie things here for the Dogs in Canada magazine including doggies as the X files gang and a baked out beagle.

Eminescu

Here is a new watercolour sketch from this afternoon for the chaps at the cartoonist rights network.
This fellow was renowned poet Eminsecu who had all the ladies hearts a flutter in his day.
Unfortunately this shows him in decline as he was one of the best looking gents around about a decade earlier. Mental illness and probably some antics with the bottle took away his hunkiness.

HARPER DOES TAHITI

For some reason I felt that Stephen Harper and company ( Duceppe, Dion) would look completely out of place in Paul Gaugin's Tahitian paradise thus I produced this.

Attempting his vibe in watercolours as opposed to oil and trying to knock it off in a day was challenging and the effect is not quite what I hoped it would be, but I guess the main thing was trying to get a good expression for Harper which I think is OK.

I can't imagine anyone more uptight looking and certainly someone who really needs to spend some time lying naked outdoors in order to absorb some Kyoto protocol insight.

NEW LITERARY REVIEW STUFF

Here are some recent pieces for the Literary Review of Canada. They represent articles on the following: Canadian aboriginal actors....who better to choose than Pat John who played Jesse on the Beachcombers for a million years; An article on the origins of ball sports which included the kooky ball/deathsport that the Mayans used to play by hitting a ball with their hips or shoulders through a hoop with the winner/loser getting sacrificed! the last piece was on landmark woman political leaders, Thatcher, Gandhi and Meir.

Crikey, it's Taj Burrow!

Here is a new illustration for Surfing Life magazine of world famous surfing demi-god Taj Burrow from Australia.
He has done everything in the sport except win the world championship and has come in 2nd a gazillion times.
This year he vows to swear off the women, booze, gambling etc. in order to concentrate on the magic prize which has proven illusive for too long.

Gidget still afloat!

I did a cartoon of the Democrat primary race the other night as Hillary Clinton squeaked out some victories in Texas to keep her slim leadership hopes alive.
Moondoggy Obama is still hanging ten at this point.
Amazingly, she is dangling a carrot to Obama's camp offering him (the front runner) a VP position on her ticket. Funny.

Caragiale and Stanescu

I've been chipping away at a list of great Romanian writers for the cartoonist rights network in Bucharest.
They have been compiling caricatures of literary icons for a few years now and the massive shows they put on are something I need to see in person one day. Lots of fine contributors from around the globe.
I've made new quick watercolours of Caragiale, a founding father of Romanian satire and Stanescu, a giant of late 20th century poetry. Both men are highly regarded by all walks of life in Romania.
It's fine practice to try and knock off likenesses of these gents.

Obama's new hairdo or "hair apparent"

Barack Obama has a whole new weight on his shoulders (on his head to be exact) with the addition of the famous mountain of hair that can only be grown or bestowed by a member of the Kennedy clan, in this case the silver fox himself, Teddy. This wondrous mane can only bring higher expectations for the man as it accompanied glowing comparisons to the late great JFK, owner of one of history's most commanding hairdos.
Can Mr. Obama live up to such lofty expectations? Only his hairdresser knows for sure.

Bush saves the day!

This is a cartoon I did for the Huffington Post during Bushes recent whirlwind trip to the gulf states. I imagined what the Prez was dreaming about nightly as he slept in those opulent palaces.
Oddly enough, my finishing panel had him returning in triumph to jog around the white house ground with amputee soldiers , which is true and for me extremely sad and disturbing.
Give up your leg and get into a quick photo op with the president and that makes everything alright?
Perhaps my rendering was not that great though of the amputee legs as most folks didn't notice them.

New dog things

Whoa! January already and I've not thrown anything up since October...what a bad man.
Here are various dog related items etc. done since then.
Happy new year.....
